The seabed of La Restinga

The Marine Reserve of La Restinga in El Hierro is an internationally-acclaimed diving sanctuary frequented every year by numerous animal species, such as turtles, tunas, thornback rays, stingrays, groupers, dolphins, barracudas... and the occasional peaceful whale shark.

The volcanic eruption that took place in 2011 led to a regeneration of the sea bed, giving rise to a very particular biodiversity and a unique underwater landscape that is full of life, perfect for practising all varieties of diving.

Diving in El Hierro

Given its volcanic origins and small insular shelf, you can reach depths of up to 300 metres just a few miles off the coast. A coast where fishing is totally artisan to respect the marine ecosystem.
Diving somewhere subaquatic where you can enjoy clear horizontal vision of up to 50 metres is truly spectacular.

If you have been diving for a while now, you will find unbeatable dive points on El Hierro. As soon as you are beneath the surface, you will be treated to an unforgettable underwater show.
You can also hire your equipment, if you don't have your own yet or don't want to bring it.

For anyone is like a fish in water – beneath the surface. El Hierro has a crystal-clear sea bed with unique species all year round.

Dive sites on El Hierro

Here you will find some of the main diving areas in Spain, such as the diving area of El Bajón or the diving area of La Restinga de El Hierro, among others. All of them will surprise you with their incredible underwater landscapes full of life, richness and ecological value. The island's seabed is a true paradise for any diving enthusiast.

The water temperature is usually between 18 and 25º C all year round, which attracts tropical and Mediterranean species, which live together in the sea. The dense vegetation covering the rocky seabed makes the island an ideal refuge for a wide variety of flora and fauna and, on occasion, a staging area for pelagic animals.
