El Hierro is a perfect place for hiking as it has more kilometres of trails than roads. Its network of paths includes multiple traditional routes, which have been restored, approved and signposted in accordance with European regulations. Whether they are new trails or old ones with years of history, they all invite hikers to discover the island as they walk through unique landscapes that change with every step, as well as allowing them to tackle various slopes, so typical of the island’s volcanic nature.

For beginners and people who love shorter walks, options like the La Llanía Route, the coastal path from La Maceta to Punta Grande or the El Sabinar Route are a way of beginning to discover the nature and the most characteristic scenery of El Hierro from a different perspective.

For legs accustomed to uneven terrain and in search of longer routes, El Hierro offers options such as the path from San Andrés to Pozo de las Calcosas or the Camino de El Golfo and its numerous variants.

Those seeking longer or more challenging routes have options like the Camino de Jinama, characterised by its steep slopes, or the Camino de la Virgen, a 27-kilometre trail full of contrasts and history that runs through the highest peaks of the island.
