Tiñor

El Hierro

A peaceful place where traditional architecture shapes the landscape

Located in the northeast of El Hierro, Tiñor preserves a distinctive charm reflected in its traditional houses, built with dark volcanic stone and flat, English-style roof tiles. The white façades of many homes contrast with the green tones of the surrounding landscape. Just a few kilometres from the island’s capital and sheltered on the hillside, Tiñor invites visitors to pause and take it all in at a leisurely pace.

A picturesque hamlet crossed by the Bajada de la Virgen de los Reyes

The Bajada de la Virgen de los Reyes, one of the most important religious and cultural processions in the archipelago, passes through Tiñor. Reaching the hamlet requires a short detour from the road linking Valverde with San Andrés and El Pinar, a route well worth taking. Exploring Tiñor on foot reveals its narrow streets, rural surroundings and the close relationship between the village and its landscape. An easy walk, perfect for unhurried enjoyment and with camera in hand.

Sustainability
Sostenibilidad
  • Never leave waste of any type lying around, including cigarette butts. Leftover food leads to a proliferation of rats and wild cats, which pose a serious threat to the fauna.
  • Do not throw any waste or other objects into the sea.
  • Respect the animals. Do not bother them or feed them. If you see an injured specimen, you can call the emergency number: 112. Do not pick flowers or plants.
  • Do not pick up or take away stones or any other item from the natural environment. And do not move them to pile them up into sadly famous 'towers'.
  • Respect and look after the area's historic and cultural heritage, along with the different items of public furniture (information panels, railings, seats, lighting, etc.).
