Route through El Pinar, La Restinga and Mar de las Calmas
This route by car shows El Hierro with all its variety and also allows us to see first-hand why Mar de las Calmas is known as a refuge of peace. Leaving Valverde, the capital city and economic centre, El Mocanal is the first stop along the way. An eminently farming town that offers an exceptional setting for a great breakfast. Not far from here, our attention will be captivated by the straw houses in Guazaroca and then La Peña viewpoint, designed by the artist César Manrique, will show us El Golfo and the Salmor Rocks.
Landscapes of El Hierro, Hoya del Morcillo by car and a swim in the south
From the views at La Peña viewpoint, we move on to the amazing picture-postcard scenes offered by Jinama viewpoint in the farming village of San Andrés. Not far away, El Pinar is a municipality with—as its name (the pine forest, in Spanish) indicates—a lush pine forest with recreational areas such as Hoya del Morcillo. The descent affords us memorable views of Mar de las Calmas and its spectacular waves. The vegetation gives way to an arid, volcanic landscape until we reach Tacorón Cove and La Restinga – a well-known dive site that is the perfect place to end the route with a delicious fish meal and a refreshing splash.
