This is the most densely populated small town on the north side of the island. The church dates back to the XVth century and is devoted to St. Peter. This is really a highly agricultural hamlet that still maintains areas of olde-worlde charm.
El Mocanal is the second town in terms of population in the municipality of Valverde.
On the coastline of El Mocanal, there are two large natural swimming pools beside a town that has been preserved intact: EL POZO DE LAS CALCOSAS. The houses here are made out with dry-stone walls and thatched roofs. This place is only used in the summer and at weekends. The access is not easy. You have to walk some ten minutes along down a steep narrow cliff path.
